1.  Cave Waterfall

Located on the slopes of Mount Meru, near the Arusha national park, is a beautiful and serene Cave waterfall situated at a height of 1940 meters above sea level. One thing to be noted is that there are some regulations that are to be followed to visit the waterfall, and tourists need to be in the presence or a tour company or a guide during their visit. The source of the water is a river that originated from the mountain, and there is a large pool at the bottom of the waterfall where tourists, under the guidance of tour agents, or with a special permit from the AUWASA, can take a swim. The hike to the waterfall is not that hard and can be easily done by anyone.

2.  Sanje Falls

You can’t visit Tanzania without going to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, and on the premises of this park you will find one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Tanzania, the Sanje falls. The waterfall, 170 meters tall, blends in beautifully with the green exotic landscape of the national park, and together, they create an almost painting like image. Because of the picturesque beauty of the waterfall, and the amazing misty effect the waterfall creates, it’s a great spot for photography enthusiasts to experiment with landscape photography, because no matter from which angle you shoot, you are guaranteed to be left with spectacular images.

3.  Olmoti Crater Waterfall

One of the most beautiful Tanzanian waterfalls is the Olmoti Crater Waterfall, situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Truly living up to its name as one of the most splendid waterfalls in the country, it can be seen even from miles away, and the beauty of the waterfall instantly attracts tourists to come and take a closer look. Though you can only see the waterfall up close from a higher point because of its position near the Olmoti crater, you will not be disappointed with the view. It is also a great opportunity for hiking, and at an intermediate level, it takes 3o minutes to get to the waterfall, and around the same time to get back.

4.  Soni Falls

If you are traveling from Tanzania to Kilimanjaro, or just exploring the National parks around that region, one of the Tanzanian waterfalls not to be missed are the Soni falls, located in the West Usambaras Lushoto Mountain Reserve. Though it takes a while to get to the waterfall, all your effort will be rewarded once you reach and take in the beauty of these waterfalls, and how majestic they look against the woods and the green background of the hills. This is one of those places that definitely makes you feel at one with nature, and where you can just sit back, unwind, and enjoy the peace and quiet listening to the soothing sound of the water flowing down.

5.  Themi Waterfall

One of the most famous waterfalls in Tanzania is the Themi waterfall, which is formed by one of the parts of Themi river that flows into the Themi valley. What makes this waterfall different from all the other ones is that it flows from an underground stream, and keeps flowing until it hits the end and flows to the bottom, creating a 15-meter long fall. The water in these is so clear and clean, that it is considered to be the purest form of water, and is used by the people who live in the nearby villages for their daily life. Another point of interest near the waterfalls are the many small celery farms, all of which use the water from the falls to water their fields.

6.  Kalambo Falls

Located on the southern side of Lake Tanganyika, on the Tanzania – Zambia border, you will find the second largest falls in Africa, after the Tulega falls, the Kalambo Falls. Plunging down a long fall of about 221 meters into Lake Tanganyika, this is unmistakably one of the most scenic waterfalls in Africa and should definitely not be missed, should you find yourself in that region. One of the most interesting facts about this waterfall is that there has been a discovery of certain human activity that could lead back to about more than 250 years back in humanity, and hence this is an important archaeological site in Africa.

7.  Marangu Waterfalls

Take a day trip in Tanzania and explore the Marangu waterfalls, also known as Ndoro Waterfalls, located right at the foothills of the Kilimanjaro mountain in the Kilimanjaro National Park of Africa. Among this dreamy landscape, you will find some of the most exotic species of plants and greenery, which is not a sight you will see in any of the other waterfalls in the country. The sight of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest dormant volcano in Africa, only adds to the magical scenic beauty of the falls. The hike, which takes you through the picturesque landscapes of the Chagga forest, also give photographers an excellent opportunity to capture some stunning images.

8.  Materuni Waterfalls

The Materuni waterfalls is another great waterfall that is situated right near Mount Kilimanjaro. It stands at a height of around 150 meters and it’s definitely a sight to look at for many tourists, and that is why so many tourists come every year to visit these falls and hike up the mountain.

Though the falls alone are enough to entrance any visitor, one can also take a trek to the Materuni village and also explore the coffee plantations of that region, take a tour around them and find out how they are grown and exported for sale. This will definitely require a day so make sure to keep a spare day in your itinerary to make space for all these exciting activities.

9.  Meru Fall

This fall is nestled among the lush green beauty of the Arusha forest, and no visit to Tanzania can be complete without witnessing the sheer beauty of this waterfall, which falls down from a height of around 150 meters, plunging into a beautiful pool surrounded by rocks and green plants. The location of this waterfall creates the perfect environment for a harmony between plants
and animals, with many exotic plant species and animals such as monkeys, antelopes, and beautiful butterflies flying around the forest.

10.  Tululusia Waterfall

Another magnificent waterfall that is located on the slopes of Mount Meru, is the Tululusia Waterfall. Although not very tall, it stands at a height of 28 meters, but what makes it so unique is because it falls from such a low height, the sound of the waterfall is quite loud and can be heard even from quite a distance. It takes a short hike to reach the waterfall, but most

tourists don’t mind because of the beautiful scenic surroundings that one can see on the hike to the waterfall.

10. Kaporogwe Waterfall

 
Kaporogwe falls is a waterfall on one of the tributaries that flow into the river Kiwira near Tukuyu in the south western region of Tanzania. It is mostly famous not for its size but rather the large cave that lies behind the falls, the plunge pool below that serves as a good swimming spot, the greenery and natural beauty surrounding it and finally its remote and tranquil location that also makes it an ideal hiking destination.
